Our Organic Therapeutic Standard Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Oil (FCF Bergamot) Essential Oil has been extracted by cold expression of the fruit peel. The furocoumarins (namely bergaptene) have then been removed by steam distillation. It is 100% pure, with no solvents, preservatives, genetically modified or irradiated materials used in production. It is vegan friendly and Humane and originates from Italy.  A member of the plant family Rutacede, It is also known as citrus aurantium subsp. and bergamia. It is a top note oil, with an invigorating, citrus, uplifting aroma. It blends well with geranium, jasmine, clary sage, chamomile (roman), cypress, grapefruit, lime, lemon, lavender and orange, and is considered to be a deodorising, refreshing, soothing oil.

Bergamot FCF organic essential oil is a safer alternative to traditional bergamot essential oil which has been identified as phototoxic due to its furocoumarins (notably bergapten) content. Removing this reduces the susceptibility to photosensitising and is the preferred bergamot for safe use in skincare blends and in perfumes.

They are sourced and bottled by members of The Aromatherapy Trade Council, who have more than 20 years of experience sourcing high quality essential oils from specialist essential oil producers from across the world. Their Manufacturing processes and procedures for maintaining this high standard of organic certification are subject to annual inspection by the UK Organic Standards Certifier. (As our own label descriptions etc have not yet gone through the administrative process, we are unable to use the logo or on our bottles or advertising at this time)

Essential oil quality testing includes complex gas chromatography (GC) analysis and Organothalmic analysis of essential oils to produce batch specific certificates of analysis (CoA). Spot checks on essential oil producer internal processes are used, as well as periodic validation of essential oil authenticity using an external testing facility.
