Oregano (Origanum vulgare) has a rich history that dates back to ancient civilisations. The use of oregano can be traced back to the Greeks and Romans, who valued it not only for its culinary applications but also for its medicinal properties. The name "oregano" comes from the Greek words "oros" (mountain) and "ganos" (joy), reflecting its association with the joy of the mountains. Historically, oregano was used in various traditional remedies, including treatments for respiratory conditions, digestive issues, and as an antiseptic. Its use in aromatherapy, where oregano essential oil is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the oregano plant, primarily through steam distillation, gained momentum in the 20th century
